When thinking of fine French fluorites, one locality is almost always overlooked, the Rossignol mine in Chaillac.
This prominent fluorite deposit was mined through the XXth century, until the shut down in 1997 and produced what is probably the best pyromorphite and cerussite specimens in the country, although exceedingly rare on the market.
Fluorite specimens were common, as lustrous crystals in combination with baryte yet almost always of unattractive grayish color.

Here you have a remarkable specimen from the Rossignol mine featuring two beautiful and pristine baryte 'open books' of 5 cm large on colorless, slightly pinkish fluorite (up to 2.4 cm edge).
Notice the occurrence of small quartz sprays, a few galena crystals and some pyrite at the back of the specimen, which is a typical combination of the deposit.

A very nice and quite unusual habit specimen of baryte and fluorite from Chaillac!
