Edmond Joseph Ghislain Doumont, born on March 5, 1879 in Temploux. He seems to make a living from his profession as a painter-decorator, alongside other artists such as Pierre Paulus or Félicien Lefoin.
In November 1899, he moved to Châtelet where he set up his painting studio. Although he excelled in portraits, Edmond Doumont was also a painter who, like Pierre Paulus, liked to depict the landscapes and inhabitants of the Charleroi region.
In 1913, his career took a decisive turn when he presented his works at an exhibition in Mons. His Sambre at Twilight was particularly noted by the royal couple and was acquired after the war by the city of Châtelet. In July and August 1916, he exhibited his works in Châtelet. During the First World War, he painted portraits of local notables.
Between 1928 and 1930, he exhibited in particular at the Salon des artistes français. In addition to his artistic works, he was also a founding member of various literary and artistic societies: the Cercle artistique et littéraire de Charleroi (nl), La Sambre and the Cercle d'Art et de Littérature de Châtelet. He participated in numerous salons and exhibitions of his works, notably in Charleroi alongside Pierre Paulus.
Today, Edmond Doumont's work is particularly known for both his portraits of bourgeois and his scenes of miners. It is exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi, at the Bois du Cazier in Marcinelle and at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Reims.
