台北/Taipei

Nobuyoshi Araki
Korinsha Publishing/1998/Japanese/263*373*20

Taipei” is a collection of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki, a leading Japanese photographer nicknamed ”Araki. The Taipei Biennial is an international art festival held every two years by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. The first edition was held in 1998, curated by Fumio Nanjo (current director of the Mori Art Museum), and featured artists from four Asian countries (Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan), including Araki, along with Yayoi Kusama and others. This book is a collection of snaps taken in Taipei, which Araki visited for the exhibition. According to Nanjo, they went to Taipei together to take photographs several months before the Biennale began, and although they stayed for less than a week, Araki completed and published this book before the exhibition began. The photographs are Araki's typical snapshots of the chaotic Taipei cityscape, ordinary people, and female nudity, but the color sense of the city, which differs from that of Japan, gives the images an exotic feel. The Biennale was conceived as a “place of desire,” and it seems to me that the chaotic and obscene space is not merely a scene, but a place connected to life (sexuality).

Parfait. Paquet super sécurisé. Dommage que Catawiki n’ait pas anticipé des frais de douane qu’UPS m’a fait payer (30€)

Fast delivery, great packaging and lovely note. The book has minor history (not mentioned), but for the age of the book more than acceptable. Very happy with the book! Excellent service.
