A modern Maki-e multi-function mechanical pencil and red and black ballpoint pens with an owl design signature. Modern Maki-e is a technique that differs from traditional Maki-e in that it does not use lacquer and instead sprinkles gold and silver powder one by one by hand onto a design printed on silk. Since it can be sprinkled thicker than traditional printing methods, the shadows and reflections of the powder create a three-dimensional texture.
