David Mossman (1825–1901) - Paris Commune Barricades
Here we have an exquisite ‘Very Rare’ hardly ever scene for sale a 19th Century watercolour by the Listed British artist David Mossman 1825-1901.
Seventy days elapsed between 18 March 1871, when the people of Paris seized the cannon of the National Guard in Montmartre, and 28 May, when the last shots were fired in Belleville. It was only in the final week that the barricade played a part, yet this is remembered as the symbol of the Paris Commune.
The painting features a young female reloading a gun at the heart of the battle to overthrow the authorities. The painting is signed lower left and dated 1884. His most famous paintings have been sold in all the top London Auction Houses. A wonderful piece of artwork which would grace any wall in your home.
