The band was formed in London in 1965 and consisted of members such as Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Nick Mason and Syd Barrett, who later left due to mental health problems. Early years (1965-1967): Pink Floyd's early stages were heavily influenced by psychedelic music, particularly under the leadership of Syd Barrett. Their debut album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (1967) was largely influenced by Barrett's creative influence. However, Barrett left the band due to his increasing mental health problems, and David Gilmour came in as his replacement. Path to progressive rock (1968-1972): With the new line-up, Pink Floyd developed into a progressive rock band. Concept albums and Roger Waters' era (1973-1985): The success of "Dark Side of the Moon" was followed by other groundbreaking albums such as "Wish You Were Here" (1975) and "Animals" (1977). Roger Waters, the band's primary lyricist, played a crucial role in shaping the conceptual and thematic aspects of the albums. "The Wall" (1979) was another iconic concept album that tells a rock opera about an isolated rock star. Separation and later years (1985–present): The tensions within the band led to Roger Waters' separation in 1985. Nevertheless, the remaining band members continued their work and released albums such as "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" (1987) and "The Division Bell" (1994). Pink Floyd performed a reunion performance during the Live 8 festival in 2005, marking their temporary reunion.
