A striking illuminated leaf from Chapter 2 of the Quran, Al-Baqarah (The Cow), v215-219, rescued from a damaged Qur'an dating back to AD1700 from North India. The verses from the Medinian Chapter discuss fighting in self-defence and fighting in the sacred months.

The leaf consists of three Surah headings in bold Muhaqqaq script and two blocks of scripture each of 6 lines in Muhaqqaq, which are flanked with wonderful celestial blue and floral arabesque columns. There are simple gold aya marking the verses and diacritical (devotional marks) in red guiding the reader and the occasional gold lettering.

Each of the passages of scripture is framed with simple black and red lines, while the whole is framed with a more complex series of five (5) frame lines consiting of black, gold, red and finally a dark blue line.

The condition is very good for its age.

Lovely 19th century manuscript miniature that arrived early, and nicely mounted with a bibliographical note. A very fine seller that I return to bid and buy from often. Thank you.

Item as described. Quick dispatch. Good communication. Couldn't be any happier. (Have to pay taxes and customs now - but that was clearly stated, foreseeable and not the sellers fault. Damned Brexit!)

Thanks so much for this feedback. Yes - damned Brexit. All the fault of in-fighting in the UK Govt and a mistaken belief that a vote would make it all go away! It has caused small business and private individuals a good deal of unnecessary trouble.

Exceptional seller, fine manuscript leaves, securely packed and shipped promptly. Much appreciated. Thanks very much.

The art piece came damaged unfortunately. The glass from the front was broken. I recommend the seller to send it with Fan Courier or other high quality postal services. However, I really like it.
