Fine binding, with frontispiece, folding map, full-page plates, and woodcut illustrations Layard was an English traveller, archaeologist, historian and diplomat. He is best known for uncovering a large proportion of the Assyrian palace reliefs in Nimrud and Nineveh. Layard sent several specimens to England which still forms the greater part of the collection of Assyrian antiquities in the British Museum. Both spine edges have some repair to reinforce or reattach the boards. Inner hinges are very good and pages are tightly held at gutter. An old and neat handwritten inscription dated 1890 on the second front free endpaper page. The pages are very clean and unmarked.
