Antique hand carved capital / corbel. Very old work, probably dating from 18th-19th century. Capital made out of solid teak / sal wood featuring an amazing detailed scroll works and foliage (acanthus leaves), as the typical Indian style. Corinthian style.
A capital / corbel can be part of a column or be applied as ornamental work with the main function to provide solid supporting surface. This capital is a corbel, meaning the backside was against a wall with the ornate front facing outwards.
This piece is real antique and not made in modern times to look like antiques. This was hand carved by skilled artisans in India with the used of techniques that have been passed down for generations.
