【Product details】
This illustrated book, "Setsubutsu Gacho" (Illustrated Book of Seasonal Items), is believed to be a beautifully hand-painted work by Hirasawa Raizan (unknown-1901), a talented artist from Kagawa prefecture. He was renowned for his paintings in the Shijo school style. The book captures vivid scenes across the four seasons, depicting people engaged in various activities and festivals.
In the spring, Raizan's brush brings the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) to life with illustrations of people dressed in traditional attire, celebrating this festival for girls. Boys' Day, held in May, is portrayed through depictions of samurai armor, helmets, and other symbols of courage. The summer scenes feature joyful children taking part in the Star Festival by decorating bamboo branches and making offerings. Winter is represented through New Year's festivities, including the ceremonial making of rice cakes.
Although Raizan passed away in 1901, his work lives on in this carefully curated collection. The book exhibits some wear, fading, and slight staining due to age, but it remains a delightful glimpse into the past. Please review the photos for a comprehensive understanding of its current condition.
