Chartreuse verte 250th anniversary: a dedicated packaging and a limited number of bottles make this edition of the Chartreuse verte a collector's bottle and a precious tribute to the famous liqueur from across the Alps. The monks produce the Chartreuse today as yesterday. They jealously keep their secret and are the only ones to know the details of the production. The liqueurs they produce do not contain any chemical additives; the colour itself comes from the plants that compose them. The 130 herbs in the recipe are macerated in high-quality alcohol, then distilled. After this process, a distillate of honey and sugar syrup is added for the Yellow. It is then that the long ageing in oak barrels begins, in the beautiful cellars of Voiron. The Chartreuse will be 410 years old in 2015 and Vert was 250 years old in 2014, and a special label was created for this occasion, which was sold in 2014 and is now a collector's item. The pharmacists of the 16th century were in search of the elixir of life, and the Chartreuse must be considered the epitome of the pharmaceutical experiment of this century; in fact, it brings together all the medicinal plants (130) known at the time. Entering the cellars of the Chartreuse is going back in time: there is no one left to age the liquors.
