The work is in good condition with his original binding and consists of 3 books in two folio volumes, and collects the main sources used for the study of the history of Spanish Baroque painting and sculpture and contains 226 biographies of artists who worked in Spain and established in chronological order as for example: Diego Velázquez (1599-1660), Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1618-1682), Juan Fernández Navarrete (1526-1579), Tiziano Vecellio or Titian (c.1488-1576), Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), Domḗnikos Theotokópoulos or El Greco (1541-1614), Anthonis Mor van Dashorst or Antonio Moro (c.1517-1577), Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo (1612–1667), Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664), Claudio Coello (1642–1693), Juan van der Hamen (1596–1631), José de Ribera, or Lo Spagnoletto (1591–1652) etc... This first rare edition is currently on sale for 16,200 euros, here it is offered at a fraction of that price. The importance of this work has made it a fundamental piece in every library of Spanish & European art. The author Antonio Palomino de Castro y Valesco (1655-1726) was one of the most important fresco painters of the Spanish late Baroque period, illustrations are drawn and signed by author and engraved by Hipólito Rovira​ (c.1693-1765), a Spanish painter and engraver. The author Palomino de Castro is known for having himself been the painter of King Carlos II or Charles II of Spain (1661-1700) and for being the first to have written the biography of Diego Velázquez (1599-1660). Palomino's "El Museo Pictórico y Escala Optica" (The Pictorial Museum and Optical Scale) first appeared in 1715–24 in a three-volume folio edition. The first two parts, are on the theory and practice of the art of painting perspectives, landscapes, portraits, geometric and architectural forms. The third and last, subtitled "El Parnaso Español Pintoresco Laureado", (Spanish Parnassus Picturesque Laureate) contains a large amount of important biographical material relating to Spanish and European artists during the Spanish Golden Age, which has led to the author being called "the Spanish Vasari". The illustrations are signed by the author, some plates are slightly trimmed and with some defects on the white margins, some stains, browning, some initial leaves with a paper defect which causes small tears. Binding of the period in full leather, spine richly adorned with gold ornaments and lettering, marbled endpapers, some traces of wear on the corners, edges, plates, but overall a copy in very good condition, with solid and functioning binding. Author: Acislo Antonio Palomino de Castro y Velasco (1655-1726) was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period, and a writer on art, author of "El Museo pictórico y escala óptica", which contains a large amount of important biographical material on Spanish and European artists. Illustrator: Hipólito Rovira​ (c.1693-1765),​ was a Spanish painter and engraver. Apart from his facets as a painter and engraver, Rovira stood out for his drawing skills.
