Writeup from MB 112:
Tiguesmat el Akhdar 001 (TeA 001) 24º52.2312’N, 8º19.173’W
Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania
Purchased: 2023
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6, melt breccia)
History: A large sample and many smaller samples were found by Hameti Harras (15 km south of the southern boundary of the El Haasan Ould Hammed DCA) in northeastern Mauritania in May of 2023. Salek Mrabih purchased 965 g of this sample from a Mauritanian meteorite dealer in May 2023.
Physical characteristics: Stone has a flattened irregular shape and shows small patches of fusion crust. The cut face is dark grey in color and shows a brecciated texture.
Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows brecciated texture composed of rounded recrystallized chondrite clasts surrounded by a network of shock melt veins and pools. Melt material is composed of µm-sized euhedral to subhedral, zoned olivine grains and rounded droplets of iron sulfide. Sample contains rare recognizable chondrules. Secondary plagioclase within un-melted clasts has an average grainsize of 57µm, n=25. Additional minerals are: apatite, chromite, troilite.
Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine (Fa29.5±0.3, Fe/Mn=61.4±3.6, n=11); low Ca-pyroxene (Fs24.6±0.2Wo1.4±0.2, Fe/Mn=38.9±2.4 n=8).
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6-melt breccia C-S6 W3) Based on textures and mineral compositions, presence of melt and yellowed olivine, sample is an LL6 melt breccia.
Specimens: Salek Mrabih (Dominion meteorites) holds the main mass. A polished thin section and several individuals weighing 21.07g are on Deposit at App.
