Miles in Savoi / Miles in Savoi is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Tsutomu Hirahaya, born in Chiba Prefecture in 1948, who worked as an embassy official, travel agent, advertising agency, seminar and publication planner, and from 1979 spent more than four years travelling around Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East, He spent more than four years from 1979 travelling and crossing dozens of countries in Europe, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia while taking photographs. Since returning to Japan, he has worked as a freelance photographer and writer, and has so far travelled to 80 countries abroad, publishing travelling exhibitions and books of photographs of ‘children of the world’, and in recent years has published a collection of portraits of a seven-year-old girl as his subject. This book consists of illustrations of live performances by jazz great Miles Davis. The author, who happened to be at the Savoy live music venue in Manhattan, New York in July 1981 when Miles Davis returned to the stage after a six-year absence, captured the 90-minute performance with camera in hand. Texts contributed by Tanaka Komimasa and Ninagawa Yuki.
