A large (H: 53 cm) Louis XVI period French portico clock, made of very nice white (Carrara) polished marble decorated with rich garniture of ormolu mounts. Rare and big model in very good condition!

Case crafted in beautiful white Carrara marble, accentuated by exquisitely detailed ormolu (mercury-gilt) decoration of rich gilt bronze mounts with matt and glossy surfaces. The gilt bronze drum case is supported on a pediment raised on two free standing rectangular columns with ormolu mounts, surmounted by big finials. Square marble support with basket of flowers flanked by garlands on top. Below the movement a large ormolu appliqué. Columns are resting on a rectangular base with wide gilt rectangular mount with floral decor, standing on four round legs. Due to materials used and size, clock is very heavy.

Dimensions: height - 53 cm, width – 32,3 cm, depth – 9,8 cm.

8 day power reserve, two train movement with silk suspension, with no doubts original. White enameled dial with Roman numerals for hours. Iron hands. Gilt bronze frame around the dial, finely chiseled. Pendulum with a large beautiful gilt bronze sunburst lens with Medusa mask in the center. Comes with a winding key.

Conditions report: clock preserved in excellent condition for the age. Case in very good condition, minor damages to the marble (tiny chips and restorations to the lower parts of columns), wear to the gilding in places, particularly to the drum (cylinder with movement) and back-frame of the movement. Dial in excellent condition, no damages visible. Movement in working order, works and strikes. Frame on the probably of the later date. Check pictures for details.
