Nereid on sea horse (hippocampus)

The hippocampus is a mythological creature that has typically been depicted with the upper body of a horse and the lower body of a fish

The Hippocampi appear in Poseidon's procession and are ridden by the Nereids, the sea nymphs who make up the procession of the god of the sea, Poseidon

Made by the Italian ceramic factory ORMAC, active between the 1930s and 1950s
Little is known about the factory's production, there is no archive research on the few models produced
ORMAC works have only rarely appeared in international auctions and often in critical condition

Trademark under the base

Designed in the 1930s
The stylistic lines are unmistakably those of the 30s (subject represented, solid body, golden oval base)

The factory creates ceramics inspired by the style of Giò Ponti and Lenci
