This use of pine in designs dates back to the Heian period, and with the diversification of designs in garments and other items during the Edo period, a variety of pine motifs that have been passed down to the present day were born. This enduring tradition reflects the deep cultural significance of the pine in Japanese aesthetics, symbolizing longevity, prosperity, and eternal youth.
