Waldemar Świerzy (09.09.1931 - 27.11.2013). Born in Katowice. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (Graphics Department). He obtained his diploma in 1952. He specialises in posters and all forms of commercial graphics (book covers, stamps, CD covers). Individual exhibitions: Vienna, Moscow, Poznań, Sao Paulo, Caracas, Wrocław. He designed his first poster in 1950. He worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan.
Major awards: Grand Prix Toulouse-Lautrec, Paris (1959); Hollywood Reporters Poster Award (1975 and 1985); Gold medal at the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw (1976); 1st prize at the 2nd International Poster Biennale in Lahti, Finland (1977); Gold and bronze medal at the International Jazz Salon ‘Jazzpo’ (1985); Gold medal at the Biennale of Polish Poster in Katowice (1989); He was a member of the elite organisation Aliance Graphique International (AGI). Chairman of the jury of the Warsaw Poster Biennale.
