The Wrestlers - 19th Century Sculpture - Based on sculpture from 3rd Century BC.

The sculpture is very eye-catching, and definitely a statement piece and talking point for your home. It is in really good condition, despite its age and delicate features. There is some light discolouration that has developed over time. We are talking about a piece that is from the late 19th century after all.

Please inspect the photos closely, as they are the main part of the description. They have been taken from many different angles, to give you an accurate description of this impressive piece.

I am not aware of any damage or restorations. If there are any restorations, they have been done so well that they are not visible. The hand that touches the ground, of the wrestler on the bottom, has a small crack on the wrist, but this would have been there since the sculpture was made. I have provided very clear photos of it.

The sculpture is a 19th century copy of a marble work that was discovered in 1583, in a vineyard owned by the Tommasini family near Porta San Giovanni in Rome. It dates from the 1st century BC, and is a copy of a lost original in bronze from the 3rd century B.C., and can be attributed to Lysippus, a sculptor renowned for many bronze and marble works and, in particular, for his portrait of Alexander the Great.

The Greek pattern around the base was not on the original sculpture, but is fitting, as the original was made in Greece. This sculpture is believed to have been made in Florence, Italy.

The sculpture will be very well packaged and shipped promptly.
I will pay for full insurance of the sculpture, so you only pay the shipping cost, and as I use Catawiki's Smart Shipping, you will find the shipping cost really low.
Will only be shipped within the EU.

De verzending liet even op zich wachten, maar het was het waard. Een schitterend object, uitstekend verpakt zodat zelfs een krankzinnig geworden postbezorger het niet zou hebben kunnen beschadigen.

Mooi ingetogen zelf portret. De kleuren zijn wat donkerder dan op de foto's maar daar had ik al rekening mee gehouden. Ik ben er blij mee ! Uitstekend verpakt verstuurd, hartelijk dank.

The painting was as described and well packed. I can not give the seller a perfect rating because shipping was very much delayed. I took a week to be dispatcht instead of the agreeed 3 business days.
