Nr. 90311691
Tweede deels, agtste stuk. De kruiden.
Title page, (10), 784 pp.; 8 large, folded, finely engraved plates.
Contemporary quarter calf over speckled boards. Spine with five raised bands and black and red morocco labels with gilt title and gilt tooled with floral patterns and ornamental bands; fore edge uncut
Spine worn, boards bit rubbed and corners bumped; tear in one page repaired..
Complete. A very good copy, clean and unmarked with fine plates.
* A complete part dealing with herbs, of the main Dutch natural history encyclopaedia of the 18th century, compiled by the Dutch medical doctor and naturalist Martinus Houttuyn (1720-1798) and often referred to as the 'Linnaeus Houttuyn' edition.
The plates show various herbs, including their leaves, flowers, and seeds.
The taxonomic part of the book is extremely detailed and contains a wealth of incidental information not brought together in this form elsewhere, not even by Linnaeus himself.
Nissen ZBH, 2011; Soulsby, 73; Stafleu, Linnaeus and the Linnaeans.
** This lot is part of an important collection that will be auctioned in the coming months through the Catawiki Collection Service. If you also need assistance to sell your collection at auction, ask for our terms directly at this seller's account!
