Fantastic gusoku armor with all its elements and original antique box. Fabulous armour from the middle Edo period (circa 1700) with all its pieces in very good condition despite the centuries. In addition to some fantastic colours and a great condition and a spectacular maedate on the kabuto with the symbols of the shigeno clan, The knotted geese (musubi-karigane) and Asano this armour surprises us with a hidden detail. During the Tokugawa reign, Christianity was abolished and persecuted on pain of death. Prior to the Edo period, Christianity was introduced to much of Japan by Europeans, notably the Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish. Once it was banned and persecuted, some samurai and lower classes continued to profess Christianity, so they hid elements sometimes in plain sight to represent that they were still Christian. In the Fukigaeshi or fins of the kabuto can be seen a couple of simple crosses, which could pass unnoticed as simple decorations although they were intended to avoid any problem with the law and the prohibitions of the time. A very curious and interesting detail of great historical value. The armour has also been completely restored of the fabrics and silks, the most delicate elements of this, an expensive work that is appreciated because many armours with so many centuries the fabrics tend to have a strong smell or to fall apart depending on how they have been stored and the degree of humidity of so many centuries stored.
