Antique stunning tramp art sewing box, each individually hand-carved, with the date of manufacture (1928s) clearly marked. The carved ornaments on the front and back, if you look closely, are engraved with letters that are presumed to be an ancient religious language.
It is in lovely untouched and none restored original condition, complete with working lock and key, complimenting the box is a lovely small mirror with inside the box, also as a lovely metal pull to lift the lid.
It originally began in and around the 1870s through to the 1940s, there is no actual real record of how it was all started nor who started it really, the process of making such wonderful pieces were created from scrap wooden boxes and furniture, items from cigar boxes and shipping creates only a couple of typical sources of wood these tramp art pieces would have been made from, this piece as lovely geometric shapes and design on all areas and side of the box, pieces of this condition and style are only becoming rarer as time goes by
Pincushion surmounting tapering lid resting on projecting elaborately carved molded case rim, the exterior of case is neatly compartmentalized
Even the pen cushion is in working condition.
There is a beatiful frame of mirror in the inside, as well as a small shelf for small pieces like thimbles and sewing needles.
