Excellent Japanese traditional Hand carved wooden Noh mask - Jūroku十六, outstanding craftsmanship and meticulous details, artist name Matsumitsu松光 was carved on the backside of the mask.
This mask was modeled after Taira no Atsumori, who was killed by Kumagai Naozane at the age of 16 in the Battle of Ichinotani. In the Tale of the Heike, Atsumori is described as "wearing light makeup and a face that is black with iron pigments," and "having a truly beautiful face." Naozane became a disciple of Honen and mourned his father's death, so "Atsumori" bears no grudge, and the mask is suitable for a Taira nobleman.
Dimensions: 21 x 13.5 x 7 cm
Weight: 145 grams
Good condition: there are stains and wear off of paints due to aging and using, please also take a look at the listed photos for a reference.
