Kyosuke Tchinai was born in Ehime Prefecture in 1948.
After studying oil painting at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and at postgraduate level, he established a unique painting method using acrylic paints on Japanese paper in the early 1980s, reaching an innovative method of expression that transcended the boundaries between Japanese and Western painting. His style, based on the traditional Japanese beauty of costume patterns, the beauties of nature, and the “beauty of things,” combined with his unique technique, creates a fantasy world that is uniquely Tchinai’s own.
He has won numerous awards, including the Yasui Prize, as an “artist” who captures Japanese aesthetics in a novel way without deviating from the tradition of the classics.Since 1992, when he was in charge of the illustrations for Tomiko Miyao’s serialized novel “Kura” published in the Mainichi Shimbun, his popularity and name recognition have become immovable.
Since 2002, he has held a solo exhibition in France every four years at Galerie Tamenaga.
His works have been collected by Roger Federer, a former professional tennis player, and the Rothschild family, one of the largest collectors in Europe, and have attracted many collectors from around the world.
