Uruvīra and Kashyapa
Uruvīra is the name of a village in the kingdom of Magadha, India. A Brahmin named Uruvīra Kashyapa lived there. He recited the Vedas and taught a religion that worshipped the fire god. When the Buddha visited this place, he converted Kashyapa. At that time, Kashyapa was over 120 years old and had 500 disciples. After the Buddha stayed in Kashyapa’s holy fire hall and subdued a ferocious dragon, Kashyapa was astonished and became a disciple of the Buddha. As a result, Kashyapa’s large religious community also converted to Buddhism, and Buddhism rapidly grew into a large organization.
