A remarkable, tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) showcasing an exquisite painting on shimmering gold leaf, depicting a tranquil autumn flower garden.
The garden bursts with a spectrum of vivid, colourful flowers growing around protruding moss-covered rock formations, including different types of red and white chrysanthums 菊 (kiku), long and slender golden lace 女郎花 (Ominaeshi), soft pink hibiscus 芙蓉 (fuyô), a few blue bell flowers 桔梗 (kikyô), a whole bunch of narcissus 水仙 (suisen) on the left, and some long extending pink lespedeza 萩 (hagi).
Watercolour and ink on gold leaf. Surrounded by two silk borders, a thin dark brown one and wide brown-golden one. Framed by a black lacquered wood with protective hardware engraved with scrolling foliage.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).

Total width: 377 cm (2 x 64.1 cm, 4 x 62.2 cm); Height: 171.6 cm.
Considering its age in a very good condition with some traces of wear conform age and some old restorations. For a clear condition reference, please look at the photos.
