【Product details】

This exquisite natsume tea caddy, crafted by Wajima maki-e artist Tazaki Shoichiro, features a black lacquer base adorned with gold maki-e designs of ginkgo leaves across the lid and sides. The interior and base are finished with a shimmering nashiji, adding depth and elegance to the piece. Ginkgo leaves, often associated with endurance, resilience, and longevity, symbolize peace and hope in Japanese culture, making this natsume a meaningful addition to the tea ceremony.

Tazaki Shoichiro, born in 1931 (Showa 6), is regarded as one of the leading maki-e artists of Wajima. He began his apprenticeship under maki-e master Ichijō Icchō 一后一兆 at the age of 15. By 28, he had his first entry into the Nitten Exhibition, subsequently earning numerous awards at various art and craft exhibitions. In 1996, Tazaki was honored with the Medal with Purple Ribbon for his contributions to art, and in 2008, he received the Hokuriku Fusetsu Award.

The original wooden box accompanying this natsume bears the artist's signature and seal, further attesting to its authenticity. The natsume is in excellent condition, showing minimal signs of wear. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of its state.
