In this type of icons, the Christ Child sits on the hands of the Virgin and blesses with his right hand, and holds a scroll in his left, which corresponds to the iconographic type of Christ Pantokrator.
Hodegitria differs from the close image type of Eleusis in the relationship of Mary and the Child: in the center of the composition is not boundless love, but the son of God, Christ, depicted frontally. The Virgin is also depicted frontally.
From a dogmatic point of view, the main meaning of this image is the appearance before the world of the "heavenly king and judge" and worship before the son of God.
In this particular icon, the Virgin Mary and Jesus are depicted seated on a throne.
On both sides you can see Saint George and Saint Dimitar.
