This listing features two miniature wooden Buddhist statues from the Edo to Meiji periods, each with distinctive attributes.
The Benzaiten statue, dating from the Edo period, represents the Japanese goddess associated with good fortune, wealth, love, and the arts. Known as one of the Seven Lucky Gods, she is often depicted on treasure boats, symbolizing prosperity and good luck. Please note that the statue is prone to detaching from its base, which also has visible cracks. The statue exhibits discoloration, small scratches, and some lacquer loss due to age.
The Bishamonten statue, from the Meiji period, depicts the fierce deity clad in armor, standing with both feet firmly placed on a demon. In his right hand, he holds a spear, a weapon to vanquish evil, while his left hand holds a pagoda, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. Bishamonten, also known as Vaisravana in Sanskrit, is a revered guardian deity in Buddhism, known for protecting the northern direction and often associated with war and victory. He is also counted among the Seven Lucky Gods, where he bestows various blessings of fortune. The statue shows signs of wear, including scratches, discoloration, and chips, along with accumulated soil from the passage of time. Please review the photos for the condition details.
Dimensions: approx. H 8-11.5 cm W 6.2-7.5 cm D 5.5-6 cm
