Nr. 88804243
Jan Van Campenhout (Aalst, December 16, 1907 – Snaaskerke, April 19, 1972) was a figurative Belgian painter and graphic artist from the mid-20th century.
As a painter he depicted clown figures, marines, landscapes, café interiors and animated street scenes in which he clearly sensed the optimistic atmosphere of the times. He published an album with reproductions of 25 pen drawings under the name “Historical Monuments & Buildings” (Anderlecht, Aarschot, Zoutleeuw…).
He lived and worked in the 1950s and 1960s in the Van Iseghemlaan in Ostend and often exhibited in the art déco café “La Coupole”.
Stylistically and in terms of content he can be strongly compared to Jacques Callaert from Middelkerke. He had a student: Dominque Vertenten.
The painting needs some restoration and so does the frame.
