Founder of the House Order of Loyalty
On June 17, 1715, the day the foundation stone was laid for his new residence in Karlsruhe, Margrave Carl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach founded his house order "Ordre de la Fidelité", which was renewed in 1803 by his successor, Elector Carl Friedrich, under its German name.
The order with the motto "FIDELITAS" (loyalty) was only awarded to the princes of the House of Baden, as an award for outstanding services to the highest Baden dignitaries and as a sign of friendship to foreign rulers.
The silver breast star for the Grand Cross consists of eight rays, each ray being subdivided. Two mirrored, golden "C"s (Carl) are placed on each of the four diagonal rays. The red enameled, eight-pointed cross of the House Order of Loyalty is placed on the star, with each point carrying a golden ball. The center of the breast star is a round medallion, which shows the silver order motto "FIDELITAS" on a golden background, and below it the also silver and mirrored cipher "C" over greenish blue mountains. The surrounding golden medallion ring is smooth.
