Okimono scolpito interamente da un singolo blocco di avorio raffigurante Benzaiten, la dea giapponese delle arti, della musica e della saggezza, che suona una biwa, strumento musicale tradizionale simile a un liuto, sostenuta da un imponente drago Ryu.
La scena è ricca di dettagli minuziosi: in basso, un saggio porge in offerta un cesto traboccante di frutti, mentre accanto alla dea, un altro attendente tiene un bastone con un simbolo buddista. La coda del drago sfiora delicatamente questo simbolo, quasi a connettere l'essenza mistica della creatura con il messaggio spirituale.
Il drago è scolpito con incredibile realismo: ha le fauci aperte, mostrando i denti affilati e la lingua. Il suo corpo sinuoso è ricoperto di scaglie, conferendo un senso di movimento e vitalità. Le sue zampe terminano con artigli ben definiti.
Firma Gyokuzan 玉山 incisa sotto la base su tassello di madreperla.

La parola "Okimono" deriva dal giapponese e significa letteralmente “Oggetto da collocare” composta dai kanji "oki" (置き), che significa collocare e "mono" (物), che significa oggetto.
Queste sculture decorative sono state particolarmente apprezzate nel periodo Meiji verso la fine del XIX secolo, grazie alla forte richiesta proveniente dai paesi occidentali.
Gli scultori e gli artigiani giapponesi avevano già dimostrato la loro abilità nella lavorazione di materiali come le lacche, i bronzi e i netsuke, grazie alla loro eccellente capacità nell'intaglio e nell'intarsio. Successivamente, alcuni di loro si sono dedicati a scolpire l’avorio, corno e blocchi di legno, bosso in particolare.
Tra le scuole di scultura più importanti ricordiamo la Tokyo School fondata da Ishikawa Komei, nonché importanti scultori come Shimamura Shunmei e Yoshida Homei.
