James Suckling (97) / Robert Parker (95)

From a great CDP vintage (2017), bottles bought after release from the Domaine, and kept in very good conditions in an underground cellar since then.

Owned by the dynamic father-and-daughter team of Paul and Laurence Féraud, Domaine du Pegau has emerged as one of the most iconic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A benchmark producer of traditionally-styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Pegau is justifiably ranked among the greatest wines in the world.

Big sister of the Cuvée Réservée with an identical blend, the Cuvée Laurence is an extension of the aging in old oaks. Combining elegance and liveliness, the Cuvée Laurence reveals its full potential on each great occasion thanks to 4 years ageing that allows an osmosis between the suppleness of the tannins & the spices of the old wood.

Robert Parker (95)
The 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Laurence was set to be bottled in November 2021, just after my visit. It boasts restrained aromas of leather, plum and garrigue but compensates for the slightly more sedate aromatics with a supple, complete and rounded feel on the palate. It's full-bodied, silky and long, ready to drink on release or anytime over the next decade and a half.

James Suckling (97)
Enveloping, warm and spicy nose with an extremely wide spectrum of aromas, ranging from dried rose to graphite via thyme and smoked bacon. Very powerful, concentrated and earthy, yet there’s brightness in there that makes it shine, Stunningly fine tannins power the super-long finish.
