This splendid 22-year-old rum was bottled at a high grade to keep all its harmonies intact. It must therefore be tasted bearing in mind that it is at 52°. Put a small drop in your mouth, pass it over your palate with your tongue, take another very small sip and swallow it, before starting the actual tasting.

The legendary Caroni distillery ceased operations in 2002, after a long period of production that began in Trinidad in 1918, leaving Angostura as the only active distillery on the island. Reserves of this superb Rum became particularly coveted by independent bottlers for its rich and spicy character, giving rise to a veritable treasure hunt to grab old barrels.
Caroni is now famous throughout Europe: the distillery has been closed since 2003 and the bottlings of the few remaining barrels are becoming increasingly valuable among collectors. After 51 different expressions in now 12 years, we are bottling the full-degree rum and the 100° Imperial proof versions with classic labels with black/white photographs, and in parallel we are keeping the blends with coloured labels. The stock is getting smaller and smaller, considering the incredible Angel Share of Trinidad, up to 10% per year. In parallel with this, refinement is always fast. The last releases in 2016 were literally burnt out, among the few markets where the bottles are present. The search for bottles from the early 1990s is fervent, and their value has reached stellar figures that were unthinkable for rums released just a few years ago: today, a bottle of Caroni is the investment with the highest and most immediate return. For the heroes who instead open the bottles: the pleasure of tasting the oldest rums on the market today.
