The Boomtown Rats -are an Irish rock band originally formed in Dublin in 1975. Between 1977 and 1985 they had a string of Irish and British hits including "Like Clockwork", "Rat Trap", "I Don't Like Mondays" and "Banana Republic". The Boomtown Rats disbanded in 1986 but reformed in 2013 without Fingers or Cott. Garry Roberts died in 2022. The band's fame and notoriety was overshadowed by the charity work of frontman Bob Geldof, a former New Musical Express journalist – The Fine Art Of Surfacing The single "I Don't Like Mondays" was released in July and also reached #1 in the UK Written in response to a school shooting in California, the song became a top ten hit worldwide except for the United States. The band's song hit the US Billboard Hot 100 and was included on the band's third album, The Fine Art of Surfacing, released in November of the same year.
