Römisches Reich Bronzering mit Göttin Venus (Ohne Mindestpreis)

Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Goddess Venus Circa 2nd-3rd century AD This bronze ring has a flat-section hoop that gently flares towards the bezel, which is set with a black oval-shaped intaglio, finely engraved with the image of a half-naked female figure. Her right breast is exposed, while her hips are modestly draped with cloth. In her extended right hand, she holds a small vase, and her left elbow rests on a short column behind her. She likely represents the goddess Venus. Venus, known as Aphrodite in Greek mythology, was the Roman goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and desire. Her origins in Roman mythology trace back to the Greek goddess Aphrodite, who, according to Hesiod's Theogony, was born from the sea foam produced by the severed genitals of Uranus when they fell into the ocean. In both Roman and Greek traditions, Venus/Aphrodite was considered one of the most powerful deities, influencing both mortal and divine affairs. She was particularly venerated for her ability to inspire love and attraction among gods and humans alike. Venus was also associated with fertility and the generative forces of nature, embodying the creative power of life. In Rome, she was revered as the divine mother of the Roman people through her son Aeneas, the legendary Trojan hero and ancestor of Romulus and Remus. Dimensions: Diameter 17.93mm; US Size 7 3/4; UK Size P; weight 3g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection formed in the 1990s.
