1. Syria Order of Bravery lll Class
Eight-pointed rayed gilt metal uniface star on wreath suspension with large central medallion depicting an Arab warrior on horseback supported by a green enamel laurel wreath and Arabic inscription; on original ribbon with star denoting this example is an award in the second class of the order. The Order was created on 20 July 1964 and is awarded for bravery in action and for distinguished conduct in the armed forces.
2. Syria.8 March Medal
Awarded to commemorate the 8 March 1963 coup in which the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party took control of the Syrian government. The coup installed Salah ad-Din al-Bitar (one of the founders of the Ba'ath Party) as prime minister. Although Major General Amin al-Hafiz came to dominate the administration, the coup and al-Bitar's role in it are an important milestone in understanding Syria's recent history. The medal was awarded to all military personnel who were serving as of 9 April 1963 (the day after the coup). In 1965, the award was extended to those recalled to service between 9 April 1963 and 28 April 1965 (the date of the amending decree). It is also known as the "Underground Medal".
Created by: Legislative Decree No. 15 of 9 April 1963 and amended by Legislative Decree No. 789 of 28 April 1965.
Obverse: 39 mm, gilded, sixteen-pointed, in the centre a hand clutching a torch with an outline map of the Arab world behind. This is surrounded by a white enamel band with a red enamel border bearing the Arabic inscription in black "Unity / Freedom / Socialism / 8 March 1963". Suspended from a ring.
Reverse: Plain.
Ribbon: Dark maroon, with three dark green stripes 1.5 mm wide, bordered by white stripes 1.5 mm wide.
