Sessel - Sitz aus Buchenholz, komplett neu gepolstert mit Astrachanfell

Beautiful seat in beech wood with tilting backrest, completely reupholstered in original Astrakhan fur from the period (condition in which it was found in the last photo). Very comfortable armchair with a modernist touch, ready for use! It was a classic for the ladies of the 60s and 70s to have a fur or coat made with this very particular fleece. Blue-black in colour, soft to the touch as well as appearing shaggy to the eye. But where does this very particular leather come from? This is the skin of a breed of lamb originating from the Bukhara region, we are located in Turkestan, on the highlands of Central Asia. Astrakhan derives its name from the ancient capital of Turkestan (now Russia), founded by the Tartars in the 13th century on the banks of the Volga. The skin is small in size because, a somewhat bloody detail, the animal is killed in the first or second day of life. The hair is short, very fine and soft, slightly wavy but not curly like that of the Persian. We can start from the 18th century, a period in which it was used to adorn the Russian military uniforms of the highest exponents of the army caste. Neck, cuffs, edges and headdress were in astrakhan. We can continue with the Shahs of Persia, who used to use an astrakhan headdress enriched with gems, as then happened for the highest ranks of the Tsarist aristocracy. This material has experienced true moments of glory alternating with periods of oblivion. In the 1920s and 1930s it was used above all for hats and the edges of the most fashionable items. In the 70s there was a great return thanks to the "FUR OBSESSION" prevalent in those years, Carlo Tivioli was one of the greatest examples of the time, using the flattest of furs in imaginative patchworks that were well suited to the "slim" shapes of era.
