Victoria Amazonica is an exquisite flower which can only be found in the deepest parts of the Amazon rainforest, unique botanic gardens and the most distinguished estates. It is the queen of the flower kingdom. Its large circular leaves, which span over 2.5 meters across, can hold the weight of a small child. Victoria has always fascinated people to such a degree that it was named to be the national flower of Guayana, the country where this superb rum was born. Allow us to say it was not easy to find a drink that could be named after the queen's lily, but luckily we were able to succeed. And just like it is hard to compare Victoria Amazonica to any other flower, this 28-year-old Enmore cannot be compared to any other rum you have tasted before. [Expert Tasting Note: Nose: a real whirlwind of very diverse aromas, this is the kind of nose you can spend hours on. Primarily driven by a trifecta of pencil lead, eucalyptus and brine, the main components are underlined by a distinct stone fruitiness - on white peaches and ripe apricots perhaps - which is instantly reminiscent of a certain tropically-aged 1995 Enmore bottled 16 years of age. Also present is the distinct funk of fresh pressed sugar cane, which beautifully rounds off this Michelin grade composition. Mouth: as much as the nose is swirling, the palate is clear and defined: following a beautiful tasting curve. It opens on a fruity note of dried Smyrna raisins, with the trademark pencil lead slowly mingling in before taking the ascendancy. Once this is accomplished, the pencil lead folds into the well-integrated oak tannins, which is counterbalanced by the freshness of grassy, zesty note of lemongrasss. Finish: This leads straight into the slowly-evanescing finish, with delicate notes of pollen and floral honeys (Victoria Amazonica water lilies, of course) adding a nice bouquet final. Comments: this is the style of Enmore I first encountered and which made me fall in love with the distillate.
