After a rich history of whisky distilling (including many illegal stills!) on the Island of Arran, the Lagg distillery closed its doors in 1837. Incredibly, the island was without a distillery for over 150 years until the founding of Arran in the early 1990s. It is still the only distillery on the island but it has been blazing a formidable trail and has even opened a second facility just a little south at Lagg. While still being a relatively young gun on the whisky scene, Arran has now been around long enough to bring us a coming-of-age 21 year old single malt. Arran 21 Years Old has a nose of citrus fruit, peach and furniture polish. The palate shows off dark chocolate, grapefruit, ginger and dark honey. The finish glows with soft spices and figs.
