It is a historic sword from the 1600s, and Minonokami Masatsune is a famous swordsmith who is ranked as a SHINTO(新刀) JYOSAKU(上作).

Minonokami Masatsune is renowned as a master of the spear, and the sword is extremely rare.

The sword is engraved with an inscription that clearly displays the distinctive features of Minonokami Masatsune's signature.

The set includes elegant Koshirae and a sword bag.


【About Minonokami Masatsune(美濃守政常)】
The first “Masatsune” was born in Mino Province and lived in Komaki, Owari Province, where his name at that time was “Kanetsune” (兼常).

In 1591, he was called by “Fukushima Masanori” and moved to Kiyosu, Owari, where he forged swords in the same place as “Hokinokami Nobutaka” and “Hidanokami Ujifusa”, and changed his name to “Masatsune”.

In 1592, he received the title of “Sagaminokami” and thereafter served the Owari Tokugawa(尾張徳川) family as an official smith.

The first Masamune is said to be one of the “three master swordsmiths of Owari” along with Nobutaka and Ujifusa.

Minonokami Masatsune, the creator of this sword, was originally the son of Daido, a master craftsman in Mino Province, but was adopted by Sagaminokami Masatsune first when Masatsune second died prematurely. In 1662, he received the title of “Minonokami,” and it is said that his skill was as good as that of the first generation and he became famous as a master spear maker.

The characteristic is that when the character for Masatsune is cut on the inscription, the final stroke of the character for “Tsune” is extended to a longer length. Minonokami Masatsune was famous for his spear, but his swords are said to be rare.
