This captivating wooden sculpture represents Amitabha Buddha, a central figure in Pure Land Buddhism, revered as the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life. Originating from the Edo period, this statue showcases traditional Japanese craftsmanship with meticulous hand-carved details.

Amitabha Buddha is depicted here in a standing pose, traditionally known for his Western Paradise or Pure Land. His right hand forms the Amida Mudra, a gesture where the thumb and index finger meet to form a circle, symbolizing enlightenment and perfection despite the missing fingers on this hand.

The sculpture bears the marks of age and devotion: there are visible scratches, stains, lacquer cracks, chips, and discoloration throughout the sculpture. The fingers show significant damage with some missing. The wooden base has signs of woodworm and is flaking, suggesting historical wear. The halo, having been repainted, contains cracks and displays signs of repair. The right foot is detached, and the left foot has been reattached with adhesive.
Please review the photos for detailed condition.
