The Wheku is generally found at the apex of the gable on a Wharenui, the Maori meeting house, and symbolizes an important ancestor after whom the house was named. The eyes of this Maori have been decorated with abalone shell, adding striking detail and giving homage to Maori tradition.

Unfortunately, the disc arrived damaged on the edges and nothing was clear in the photos on Catawiki and it said it was in excellent condition with signs of age...what signs can a decorative ornament?
