Qur'an - Herat - Timurid - AD1460. This manuscript bi-folio, is from a Koran scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil. It was relatively small for ease of carriage, thus was most likely for private use. Sadly the Qur'an had been badly damaged with most of the manuscript beyond repair. We have done what we can to rescue some of the Holy scripture.

The bi-folio is from Chapter 6 of the Quran, Al-An'am (Cattle) v93-99, which explains the Fate of the Wicked and God's Power of Creation. Each leaf each contain 14 lines of evenly spaced and elegant Naskhi script in black ink and in an educated calligraphic hand. Multiple free-hand 'aya' in a simple gold spiral mark out the many verses on both leaves. Each leaf has a single marginal, the left in in blue and the right in gold. Diacritical advisory script marks in red providing the reader with devotional guidance. The folios are each fully framed in gold and blue lines.

The condition is very good for its age, with minimal thinning and only some devotional use (page turning). There is a crease to the right leaf (see image 4d). However, given its age and the general condition of the Qur'an from which this was rescued, it is in pretty good shape.

This is a rare item dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453.

Lovely 19th century manuscript miniature that arrived early, and nicely mounted with a bibliographical note. A very fine seller that I return to bid and buy from often. Thank you.

Item as described. Quick dispatch. Good communication. Couldn't be any happier. (Have to pay taxes and customs now - but that was clearly stated, foreseeable and not the sellers fault. Damned Brexit!)

Thanks so much for this feedback. Yes - damned Brexit. All the fault of in-fighting in the UK Govt and a mistaken belief that a vote would make it all go away! It has caused small business and private individuals a good deal of unnecessary trouble.

Exceptional seller, fine manuscript leaves, securely packed and shipped promptly. Much appreciated. Thanks very much.

With our pleasure. Thank you for your purchase.

The art piece came damaged unfortunately. The glass from the front was broken. I recommend the seller to send it with Fan Courier or other high quality postal services. However, I really like it.
