LOT DESCRIPTION:
Lid of a rare Gnathian Skyphoid Pyxis.
South Italian, Sicilian.
Round domed lid with mushroom-shaped pommel, dark patina and geometric with vine-like decoration.
approx. 450-350 BC
Almost identical example on complete jar can be seen in Princeton University Art Museum, Cat. no. Y1969-114 a-b (see museum website).
Pencil notation inside the lid, in German stating origin as Sicily
13 cm x 13 cm x 7.5 cm.
CONDITION:
Complete and in overall Good Condition. Scratched on the edges, worn decor (please check photos for details).
