Red Bitter Melon

Toyomitsu Higa
Yumearusha/2004/Japanese/21×15cm

The Red Goya - Photographs of Toyomitsu Higa 1970-1972" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Toyomitsu Higa, born in 1950 in Yomitan Village, Okinawa, Japan. The second half of the book was published in Kanatake. The latter half of the book captures Masao Ishikawa working and living in Kanatake. He also established the independent gallery "Photo Plaza Aman" with Koshichi Taira and other photographers, and has worked with Yasuo Higa, a leading photographer in the area, to photograph rituals on the islands, and continues to pursue "Okinawa" with his inner gaze. This book is composed of works taken by Higa during his college years as he wandered around the shaken islands before and after the reversion to Japan. The majority of the photographs were taken from moving buses and cars with no viewfinder, and the composition and focus are unclear, with many blurred and blurred images included. This is a valuable collection of Higa's early work that has seen the light of day 30 years after it was taken.
