Grande e eccellente scultura in bronzo del periodo Meiji firmata Gyokko. La scultura raffigura un samurai in piedi che tende l'arco con una freccia pronta per essere scoccata.
La posa è dinamica e tesa, con il corpo leggermente inclinato all'indietro mentre tende l'arco, pronto a rilasciare la freccia con precisione e forza. Il samurai ha uno sguardo fiero e concentrato, i suoi occhi fissano l'obiettivo con determinazione, esprimendo la sua abilità e il suo stato d'animo indomabile.
Il guerriero è vestito con un kimono riccamente decorato, interamente inciso con motivi di mon, gli emblemi araldici legati alla sua casta di appartenenza. Questi motivi intricati aggiungono profondità e complessità al suo abbigliamento, rappresentando la sua eredità e il suo status. Le pieghe del kimono sono scolpite con grande attenzione ai dettagli, creando un senso di movimento e tridimensionalità.
Il samurai è posizionato su una base in legno traforata, che non solo sostiene la scultura ma contribuisce anche all'estetica complessiva dell'opera. La base traforata è realizzata con abilità artigianale, presentando intricati intagli che aggiungono eleganza e raffinatezza alla scultura.

La parola "Okimono" deriva dal giapponese e significa letteralmente “Oggetto da collocare” composta dai kanji "oki" (置き), che significa collocare e "mono" (物), che significa oggetto.
Queste sculture decorative sono state particolarmente apprezzate nel periodo Meiji verso la fine del XIX secolo, grazie alla forte richiesta proveniente dai paesi occidentali.
Gli scultori e gli artigiani giapponesi avevano già dimostrato la loro abilità nella lavorazione di materiali come le lacche, i bronzi e i netsuke, grazie alla loro eccellente capacità nell'intaglio e nell'intarsio. Successivamente, alcuni di loro si sono dedicati a scolpire l’avorio, corno e blocchi di legno, bosso in particolare.
Tra le scuole di scultura più importanti ricordiamo la Tokyo School fondata da Ishikawa Komei, nonché importanti scultori come Shimamura Shunmei e Yoshida Homei.
