Boro 襤褸 - Textilien - Japan - Meiji Periode (1868-1912)
DESCRIPTION
Boro(Ranru) is old cloth or rags.
It also refers to worn-out and torn clothing, or clothing that is full of patches.
In Japan, cotton did not become popular among the general public until the Edo period (1603-1868).
Cotton, which was precious at that time, was carefully used until the end, even if the fabric was torn, by patching it up.
This textile is made of some types of striped and indigo-dyed fabrics.
As you can see in the photo, it is made of many layers of scraps and rags.
Cloth from various periods is used, but the oldest can be judged to be from the Meiji period (1868-1912).
This textile was used in Futon (Japanese-style bedding).
Boro have a history and way of life of farmers that make us feel wabi-sabi.
Almost good condition for it's age
