Cálem Velhotes 10 Years Old Tawny Port 3 x 0.75L Offley 10 Years Old Tawny Port 3 x 0.75L 6 Bottles Port Wine -> Cálem Velhotes 10 Years Old Tawny Port 3 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Some of his contemporaries may have mistaken António Alves Cálem for an incurable adventurer, but it was entrepreneurship that fuelled his passion. When he founded Porto Cálem in 1859, he set his sights on crossing the Atlantic and exporting to Brazil. This at a time when Port was typically shipped to the British Isles and other European markets. Beaten paths were not for Cálem. Once he eventually set route to Brazil, his first transactions were done in exotic woods. Again, this could have easily been misjudged as a bold decision when, in fact, it was a pondered risk that forwarded a very successful business relationship. By 1965, Porto Calém’s reputation for fearlessness and grit had made its way around the world along its ships and crews. It was time for the image of the company to reflect that. Hence the iconic caravel being loaded with casks of Port was born, gracing every Calém bottle since. The vision of a great man tends to inspire those around him, and so did the dream of António Alves Calém — for every generation of the family to come. Also in 1965, António Alves Calém Júnior picks up the mantle and officially becomes his father’s business partner and successor to be. The generations that followed worked tirelessly to ensure worldwide recognition. In doing so, the brand amassed numerous awards for elegance, character, and quality in its wines. A century and a half into its journey, Porto Cálem truly represents the world of wine its founder envisioned. When you offer Porto Cálem, you toast to the tradition of excellence. WINEMAKER: Carlos Alves. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 92 Points, International Wine & Spirit Competition 91 Points, International Wine Challenge Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Gold Medal, Uva de Ouro WINE VARIETIES: Traditional from Douro Region. VINIFICATION Cálem Velhotes 10 Years Old Tawny is the resulto f a careful blend of wines aged in oak casks in Cálem cellars in Gaia. TASTING NOTES Appealing golden colour with a topaz rim. A long and engaging finish. SERVING Ideal for pairing with an irresistible terrine of foie-gras with aubergine or other main dishes that include dried fruit. You'll enjoy the best of its aromas if you serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. -> Offley 10 Years Old Tawny Port 3 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Irreverent, versatile and innovative, Offley finds its innovation in the visionary and charismatic personality of Joseph James Forrester... a challenge to the status quo of Port Wine, and a call to freedom to try new wines and explore new ways of consumption. WINEMAKER: Luís Sottomayor. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 95 Points, International Wine Challenge 92 Points, Decanter World Wine Awards 16.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 16.5 Points, Revist de Vinhos 16 Points, Jancis Robinson Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Gold Medal, Challenge International du Vin Gold Medal, Vinalies Internationales WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca & Tinto Cão. VINIFICATION After being destemmed and crushed, the grapes are conveyed to stainless steel vats, where the process of alcoholic fermentation takes place. During this stage, a smooth, temperature-controlled maceration takes place in order to extract the compounds from the grape skin. As with structure, balance and harmony are achieved through the careful selection of grapes and by choosing the right moment to interrupt the fermentation process, by adding brandy. The wine is then aged in the Vila Nova de Gaia cellars, in the traditional oak casks that have a capacity of approximately 640 litres. During ageing, the wine is subjected to periodic racking, as well as various analyses and tastings in order to monitor its development. The final blend is normally composed of wines aged between 8 and 15 years, thus achieving the average age of 10 years, as well as the Offley quality and style. TASTING NOTES Brick-coloured, with golden nuances. Its elegant and complex bouquet is characterised by flavours of ripe fruit, compotes and nuts, with hints of vanilla, raisins and jelly. In the palate, the balance between the richness of the grapes' natural sugars and its tannins give the wine a fine structure and a delicate, yet complex finish. SERVING This is an excellent quality wine that may be enjoyed by itself or with strong cheese, nutty desserts or crème brûlée. The wine does not require decanting. It should be served between 12°C to 14°C.
