The story of Krug Rosé dates back to 1983. With Joseph’s non-conformist spirit at heart, the 5th generation of the Krug family gave birth to a new composition, a bold rosé inspired by the House’s reputed art of blending, to be re-created each year. Thus, the first Édition of Krug Rosé, a singular Champagne achieving an astonishing balancing act between finesse and substance, came to be.

Krug Rosé 27ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2015, a year marked by unprecedented heat and drought that prevailed from the end of May to mid-August, slowing grape development. Fortunately, rains and reasonable temperatures in the second half of August allowed the berries to grow in optimal conditions. The harvest took place under the rain between August 31 and September 21, with great heterogeneity from plot to plot. Each year, to re-create the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family of an unexpected, bold and elegant rosé Champagne, the House starts by identifying plots’ wines from the current and previous years that will together convey all possible types of fruit expression.

This composition then embraces a traditionally macerated red Pinot Noir wine, which adds spiciness, colour and structure. Krug Rosé 27ème Édition is the result of complementing the selected plots’ wines of the year with reserve wines from 8 other years. Red Pinot Noir wine of the year from plots in Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ completed the creation, imparting structure, colour, and spice. It is the 27th time this dream has been re-created.

In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 55% of the final blend of this Édition of Krug Rosé. The final composition of this Édition of Krug Rosé is 57% Pinot Noir, 23% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier.

The bottles have been purchased directly from Krug’s cellar and have been stored in a humidity and temperature control cellar since.
